The Friends4 mascot with a bay horse

Friends4horses The horse app for the stable, health and riding

Stable day, health record, cost book and rides in one place – for everyone who looks after your horse with you: share rider, family and trainer.

Download on the App Store

For iPhone. The Android app isn’t on Google Play yet.

Stable day

Feeding, mucking out, turnout – tasks for every day, recurring and ready to tick off. Everyone sees who did what – and if you like, your phone reminds you.

Share the horse

Share rider, family, trainer: invite by code, as a co-manager or as a helper. Everyone only sees the horse you share.

Calendar

Farrier, vaccination, deworming, equine dentist: all appointments of all horses across a month, filtered by horse.

Record a ride

Route, duration and speed by GPS, with the time in walk, trot and canter – estimated from the speed and the rhythm measured by the phone’s motion sensor, and labelled as such. If you correct a gait, the app learns your horse’s limits.

Indoor and outdoor arena

Indoors there’s no route and no map: the time per gait then comes from the rhythm alone.

Bridleways

Bridleways from OpenStreetMap on the map – nearby, at the start and during the ride. Adults can share their loops, others ride them too.

Fall detection

If you like, the app watches for a possible fall or a long standstill during the ride. After a countdown you can cancel, your confirmed emergency contacts get an email, those who use Friends4 also a push – and with Plus a text message, if the contact has stored their number themselves. Not an emergency call – a phone estimates.

Share your live location

On a hack, your emergency contacts can see where you are if you like – the last position about every 30 seconds. Sharing ends with the ride, at the latest after six hours.

Health record

Temperature, pulse, respiration, weight with history, a symptom diary from head to hoof, treatments and medication.

Competition vaccination check

Is your horse eligible to compete under the influenza rules, and when is the next vaccination due? The app works it out from the record. It doesn’t replace the check of the equine passport by the show office.

Weight and body condition

Weight without scales using a tape measure, plus the body condition score (BCS) and the cresty neck score – always with a range, never as a diagnosis. In the feeding plan, the forage check looks at whether there’s enough hay and whether the forage breaks are too long.

Withdrawal period and food chain status

What the equine passport says – intended for slaughter or not – and until when the withdrawal period after a medication runs. The vet makes the decision.

Feeding plan

What there is in the morning, at midday, in the evening and at night – so that whoever covers feeds correctly.

Weather and storms

Official severe weather warnings for the stable location in Germany, free for everyone. With Plus, the weather check: fructan, pollen, insects and a rug suggestion – as a rule of thumb, not as a diagnosis.

Cost book

Expenses per horse with a photo of the receipt, recurring costs like livery and the share rider’s contribution. Everyone only sees their own entries. Annual report and CSV with Plus.

Horse dossier as a PDF

A printable summary for the vet, a new stable, the share rider or a sale. You choose what goes in; the stable location stays out unless you turn it on.

Breeding

For mares: a heat calendar with a forecast from her own cycles, covering, pregnancy with examinations and a foaling date as a range, then the foal as a horse of its own.

Without a network

Stable, feeding plan, contacts, record, stable day and calendar stay readable in a dead zone – at the top you can see how old the displayed state is. A ride without a network goes out as soon as there’s a network again.

Siri and shortcuts

Start a ride, today at the stable, emergency card, quick entry – on the iPhone with Siri, Shortcuts and the Action button, on Android as a shortcut on the icon. Handy with gloves on and the horse on the lead rope.

Riding exercises

More than 40 exercises for dressage, jumping, groundwork, lungeing and more – with a set-up sketch, equipment and level. The exercises are currently written in German.

Guides and features in detail

What is Friends4horses?

Friends4horses is a stable app for iPhone and Android, in German, French and English. Owners, share riders, family and trainers organise a horse’s everyday life together in it: who feeds and mucks out today, when the farrier is coming, what the last temperature was and how far the hack went. Friends4horses is a service of Friends4.

Health without remote diagnosis

If a value is outside the resting values of an adult horse, the app says “Ask the vet” – never what is wrong with the horse. For foals and young horses it only shows the number, because the reference values are different there.

Your data

Horse photos are saved without location data and are only visible to the people you share the horse with. Rides are only recorded between start and stop. No advertising, no tracking counters, nothing from other companies’ servers. More in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share my horse with my share rider?

You invite them with a code, as a co-manager or as a helper. Everyone only sees the horse you share; health data is only visible to the roles allowed to read the record.

Does the app make diagnoses?

No. If a value is outside the resting values of an adult horse, the app says “Ask the vet” – never what is wrong with the horse. For foals and young horses it only shows the number.

Is fall detection an emergency call?

No. A phone can only estimate: detection can miss a fall and go off without one. That’s why a countdown you can cancel starts after every suspicion. Only then do your confirmed emergency contacts get an email with your last position. In an emergency, call 112.

Does the vaccination check replace the check by the show office?

No. From the vaccinations in the record, the check calculates from when your horse is eligible to compete under the influenza rules of the LPO (German competition rules). What counts is the entry in the equine passport, the check by the show office and the competition schedule.

Does the app work without a network?

For reading, yes: stable, feeding plan, stable contacts, emergency contacts, stable day, calendar and health record are shown as last loaded. A ride is recorded even without a network and goes out by itself as soon as there’s a network again. Entering and ticking off need a network, so that two versions don’t contradict each other in the team. The fall alarm and live location need mobile data – in a dead zone the app can’t reach anyone.

How much is Friends4horses Plus?

Friends4horses is free and stays free – including fall detection, live location, bridleways and severe weather warnings. Plus is an annual subscription at €9.99 in Germany (the store shows the price in other countries) for analyses and trends: ride analysis with a gait map, vital signs older than 30 days, weather check, annual cost report, health in the horse dossier, more than two horses of your own and the emergency text message. No trial period – the free version is there for trying out. You buy it in the App Store or on Google Play; Plus then applies on iPhone and Android.

Is Friends4horses available for Android?

The Android app isn’t on Google Play yet. Until then, Friends4horses is available in the App Store for the iPhone. A Plus subscription will then apply on both platforms.

How do I sign in?

With your Friends4 account. If you don’t have one yet, you create it directly in the app in three steps – it then works for Friends4 and Friends4horses. Friends4horses is a service of Friends4 (friends4.de).
